Five on Friday - This is super late

Summer is here in all of it's glorious mood swings.  Cloudy, humid mornings lead way to sunny and hot afternoons.  Some days we are socked in with rain and others are a cool breeze that beg you stay outside in the sunshine all day.

I spent a rainy day looking through photos and realized I never showed some new updates.

1.
FENCE!!

After a LONG week (only because the boys couldn't go outside) our new fence is done!!!

2.
New Couch

I finally found new couch for our TV room.  A tiny bit of whining to Justin and he agreed, so we traded out the mammoth rust colored couch for a sleek gray one.

I sold it on our local Buy/Sell facebook page

This is our couch.  We bought in store when it was on sale.

I'm hopeful I can get the artwork we have framed and hung this summer......only 6 years later!  Haha.

3.
#biggywiggy is potty trained!!

No photos for this ;)

4.
New Office Space

*This actually took place in the late fall, but hey, this blog post is only 5 months late*

Bonus - You can see we finally framed and hung those prints!

After a few months of working at our dining room table, my back couldn't handle it anymore.  Justin and I had ordered a printer/scanner a few week prior (for personal use) and it needed a home.  I figured it was time and bought this desk from Overstock.  My chair is from my office.

My work FINALLY supplied us with laptops and various equipment in September.  Better late than never.  Justin was lucky enough to bring home an extra monitor from his office.

Of course the kids already decorated my "office" so I would think of them while I was working.
I love my boys!

5.
Another Big Boy Bed

#biggywiggy wanted us to lay with him in his toddler bed every night.
He tried to sleep with #wiggydiggy in his bed often.

I bit the bullet and bought a full sized mattress and bed spring in October.

His crib converts to a full size frame, but I want to keep him close to the floor for now.  His quilt and shams arrive this week, so I'll take nicer photos soon :)

Their new favorite place to play!  I find them hiding under the covers all the time!

I moved the glider out to the living room and recovered it.  This is my favorite place to sit now.  You can find me here reading a book almost every eveing.

Five on Friday - It's April!!

HI!

Miss me?
Haha.  Kidding.
March is my busiest month at work and I'm always partially brain dead the first week of April while I wrap up final details.  I am SO happy it's the first Friday in April!

This month we have big plans at the house.

1.
Guest Room

We have put some new nightstands and lamps, now we're waiting on the comforter and second sham to arrive.  I had ordered one sham a while back to see if I'd like it, and I can't wait to get the other pieces in!
Justin is going to trim out the windows and floors and we'll hang the window treatments this weekend.

Photos coming soon!!

2.
Paint swatching

In case you haven't heard or remember about our paint fiasco, here's a quick recap

Behr makes THREE paints called Snowfall

1. Snow Fall
2. Snowfall (expired)
3. Snow fall White

Want to know what color white we picked?

ALL THREE.

Not on purpose.  #1 was the color we purposely chose.  There was one mishap where I realized 5 minutes into painting with a new gallon that the whites weren't matching.  I compared lids and ran back to Home Depot to get a new gallon.  The names were similar but the color codes weren't. I just thought it was a mistake.

But after years of Justin buying gallons here and there, and me buying gallons here and there, we finally saw HOW different the paint was when the new floors went in.
Some trim is very yellow and it's right next to a bright white, which is right next to a bluish white.

So this month I get to go around the house and test ALL the trim with patches of #1.  I'll paint what I can while the boys are napping, but almost all of the doors will be removed and sprayed this summer.

Thankfully all of the floor trim was done AFTER we found the paint mishap, so that's one less thing for me to paint.

UGH.

3.
Fireplace Makeover

Our mantle is pretty inefficient at blocking the heat from rising straight up.

Our clock has become warped from the heat and no longer works.

Target had a 40% off deal and I pick out this mirror for a new aesthetic.

My inspiration:

4.
Master Bedroom Makeover

We spontaneously painted our master bedroom one night when our new carpet was installed.
We were over the green and wanted a more neutral color.

Not the best photo - but you can see the green walls and post to our four post bed.

We looked at the color options that we had (Chic Gray or Sculptors Clay by Behr) and picked Sculptors Clay since it went with our furniture more.  Sculptor's Clay has a more brown base while Chic Gray leans more towards a bluish gray base.

Then, when we put the bed back in, we decided to toss the posts.  No More Four Post Bed!
It opened the room up SO MUCH.

I took the opportunity to sell some pieces of furniture from the set in the guestroom and our room (single nightstand and a chest of drawers)
This table came this week to replace the chest of drawers in our room.  I snagged it when it was on sale for under $100.

Note - while the size and shape is perfect; it's damaged.  Two attempts to get us the right table and I said screw it.  I can paint the corners and it's in our room, so no one will see it.

We have high hopes we can get our room trimmed this weekend as well.  I can't wait to post updated photos!

5.
Paint Kitchen Ceiling

We repainted the kitchen after new floors were put in.  The original color we picked was very.....pink.
Malted Milk by Behr

It looked like a very light brown when we swatched it.  Haha.

So we used what we had and painted it Chic Gray.  We started to paint the ceiling too, but we quickly realized that white would look better than either color.  So it's been a rainbow of colors for a while now!  Haha.

Rug Update

Pantry/Laundry Runner

For the rugs from RugsUSA, I purchased the rug pads from them.  Other rug pads are from Amazon.

All photos taken on my (dying) iphone.  Man the quality is poop these days.

Floor Progress

Floor is Cooperstown Hickory from Home Depot

We chose this flooring for a few reasons
1. We didn't want to overprice our flooring for our neighborhood
2. This isn't our forever home, so we didn't want to overspend
3. Two young boys

I love the way it's turned out!  Without the baseboard trim it does look a bit darker than I wanted.  I know once we get furniture and rugs in it will change the overall look.

It starts today!

Our flooring install starts today!

I have (impatiently) waited for this day for 6 years.
Every time we've picked out flooring and started the process, we've been side tracked.
Twice it was for busted pipes in our main bathroom.
Once was to replace our main fireplace.
Once it was for the damage done to my Tahoe.

Since we would rather pay for our remodel out right vs going into debt, it just kept pushing back the floors.

The current state of our house:

Justin's a beast and ripped up all the carpet, carpet pads, tack strips, linoleum, and tile in 36 hours.  His brother came over to help move all the furniture to the garage

I can't wait to share the after!!

Big Boy Room Part 2

#wiggydiggy LOVES his big boy room!

The curtains are more 'cream' than I'd like, but they are so soft and block the light so well, I'm keeping them.
We still need some shelving above his bookshelf for his special keepsake items.  They are currently still on a shelf in the nursery.

I love how the closet turned out!  I'm still shopping for some baskets to fit the space better.  Also, I need to figure out what to do with his shoes.

I hung those pictures above his bed two minutes before nap time and without a measuring tape or level!  Pretty pleased with how they turned out.

This is the wall that needs his keepsake shelf.

I really wish Pottery Barn made their Madras Quilt as a duvet cover.
I'm keeping an eye on the price and I'll snag it once they have a great sale.

We hung the same curtains in the nursery and will be updating the closet the same way as well.
I need to plan a trip to Hobby Lobby soon so decorate the bare walls in there!  Haha.

Big Boy Room Part 1

While we were under quarantine (again...this time due to Hand, Foot, and Mouth) this past weekend, we decided to get the bedroom switch underway.

Originally I had planned to move all of the nursery furniture to the toy room.  We would convert the crib to a toddler bed and buy a new crib and dresser.
That did not happen.

Honestly, I was tired and really didn't want to be without a crib during #wiggydiggy's bed transition.
I did some online shopping and found the cutest twin bed frame on Wayfair.  Then everything else just fell into place!

We (re)painted the walls Chic Gray by Behr.
(the third or fourth and FINAL time we paint this dang room)
Justin ripped out the built in closet shelves, we painted the closet Snowfall by Behr and installed a Closetmaid system.  The bottom section will have drawers, they just haven't come in yet :)

Since this *was* the toy room, I tried to keep the new furniture to a minimum.  Bed and nightstand, that's it.  Everything else was already in the room for toy and book storage.
We moved over #wiggydiggy's artwork and have curtains coming to finish out the space.

Sick boy wanted to be in the room the entire time.  Such a sweetheart.

The *temporary* toy storage during construction.
