Five on Friday

Today's my 'Golden Birthday'!!  Turning 30 on the 30th.  In that spirit, today will be birthday themed.

-One-
I had every intention of buying something for myself at the Gap/Old Navy sale.  Instead I placed an order for my lil' man.  I have a feeling this is how I'll shop from now on.  I guess I'll keep on shopping until I find something for myself!

-Two-
(most) of my family arrives today!!  #wiggydiggy is thrilled to meet his Grandpa, Aunt and Uncle
Uncle M

-Three-
Birthday cake and Super Bowl cake have been made!  Now I'll just let you guess which ones which.....

-Four-
My middle of the night nursing turned into a Happy Birthday surprise.  J woke up and refilled my water and helped with lil' man.  That could be my only gift and I'd be happy.  My family is everything.

-Five-
This lil' man.

Saying Happy Birthday Mom!

Birthday Week!!

I'm so excited!  It's a big week at the WigDiggity household.  My dad, brother and sister-in-law are coming up to visit, my 30th birthday is on the 30th, #wiggydiggy is being baptized on the 31st and we are hosting a Super Bowl party on the 1st.  Going to be a fun and busy week!

I was able to pick out my first birthday gift last week - the LL Bean boat tote.  I've had the same swim/lake tote since I was 18 and it was time to invest in a more long lasting piece.  I'm so excited that it's going to show up on my birthday!

I chose the red in large with a long handle (and of course, a monogram W).  I can't wait to take #wiggydiggy to the club's pool this summer!

Now I'm off to do some grocery shopping to prepare for our house guests and party.  I can't forget the birthday cake either!  Haha.

Friday Five!

-One-
It's Date Night tonight!
Our first date night since lil' man joined us.  I'm so excited to wear heels :)

-Two-
I have so many posts in draft form.  I need to find a few spare minutes to finish them all so I can get back to blogging regularly!  I promise, there is only ONE pregnancy post left.

-Three-
I read the most amazing article
http://borntobeabride.com/2015/01/09/they-shouldve-warned-me/
Not to be cynical, or all high and mighty, but her article accurately describes EXACTLY what I was expecting when I had #wiggydiggy.  As a previous nanny and babysitter, I knew most of what to expect with a newborn, but I knew that the love for my husband and child would know no bounds.  Women need to stop putting a negative light on pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

-Four-
I'm on a serious purge kick.  I want to get rid of EVERYTHING!  I would love to scale back in every room of our house (that means I have to get the husband to clean out his stuff as well,  He has more than me!)

-Five-
This lil' man.
What blog post is complete without a baby picture?

Sorry I'm not sorry :)

Just Checking In

With J back at work leaving #wiggydiggy and I at home, I've been soaking up every minute with my lil' man.  Sorry for the blogging hiatus!

I've been sending daily pictures to some family members and you can catch a lot of the action on my Instagram account.  No shame - it's all baby, all the time.

J and I are still over the moon with our boy.  I promise I'll have more house updates soon!  I still need to show you the nursery, thanksgiving project, guest bath and so on and so forth!

Postpartum Essentials

Nursing Cami by Gilligan and O'Malley
Always Infinity Unscented Pads with Wings, Regular Flow, 36 Count (Pack of 2)
Netflix
Dreamer Flannel Pajama by Victoria Secret
Dermoplast Pain Relieving Spray-2.75 oz.
Camelbak Eddy Bottle 0.75-Liter/24-Ounce

While I've been on maternity leave, I've become dependent on a few specific items to help me through my postpartum phase.

The first item up is the the Gilligan and O'Malley nursing cami I found at Target.  I didn't want to buy any nursing items until the baby arrive but I knew that I would need something while I was in the hospital.  The price of the cami (under $20) was right on and I picked one up with my RedCard (extra 5% off!!) while at Target.  After my third day in the cami at home, I was hooked.  My mom headed off to Target and picked up a white one and another black one.  They are supportive, comfortable and long enough for me.  I'm living in these while #wiggydiggy and I are figuring out nursing and staying home.

**Update 4/7/15 - these cami's don't wear so well anymore. :(  The bottoms are too flared out and baggy.  I'm trying to find nursing cami's I can wear under my work clothes that are fitted.  Any suggestions?

In the hospital I was given both pedi pads and maxi pads.  The pedi pads I used as personal ice packs and brought extras home to make more, but the maxi pads?  Nope, nada, not happening.  The ones from the hospital were so thick I felt like I was wearing two diapers when I had a pedi pad in as well.  I love the Always Infinity pads, so I picked up a box of supers the weekend before we had the baby and it was the best last minute decision I made.  They are so thin and so absorbent that I never felt like I was wearing a pad!  I ended up going out one afternoon and buying a box of regulars to get me through the rest of the postpartum phase.  I'll keep these around for future use too. (TMI?  Maybe, but it is my postpartum essentials......)

Netflix.  I think this is pretty self explanatory, but while #wiggydiggy and I work on getting him on a better schedule and we figure nursing out, I've watched a lot of Netflix (especially at night to keep me up during a marathon nursing session.)

Victoria's Secret Dreamer Flannel Pajamas.  I literally wore my first pair out last winter.  I had them for 5 years and would wear them non-stop from fall to spring.  When I opened up my Christmas presents and saw I had a new pair from Justin, I was in seventh heaven!  Not only are they long enough to keep my ankles warm (seriously, long should be an option for ALL clothing), but the button down top works great when nursing.  I've only once worn them during the day - that was the first day I had them and they were washed :)  Since I've made it my goal to shower every day, I'm making myself stay out of pajamas during daylight hours.

Best kept secret?  Demoplast Spray.  This stuff it worth its weight in gold.  Just trust me on this one.

Camelbak Water bottle.  Any water bottle would really work, I just love my Camelbak's.  I have three I keep filled at all times.  Nursing really takes a lot of me and I'm drinking just as much, if not more, than when I was pregnant.  I love the straw and how I can drink without using my hands if necessary.  Plus, keeping all three filled prevents me from having to do a water run after every nursing session.

#wiggydiggy - 1 Month

#wiggydiggy | 1 MONTH

Happy Anniversary Grandma and Papa Lovett!!

nicknames | kid, baby, little man

weight |
using the 'at home' method, we are guessing you are at least 10 1/2 pounds and at least 22".

size | we just used the last of the newborn diapers and moved to size 1. Clothing is 0-3 months. You are so long that you were barely able to wear newborn sizes for the first two weeks before we couldn't snap buttons anymore.

sleep |
the first two weeks we didn't even try a schedule.  All you did was sleep and I had to set my alarm to try to wake you every two-three hours to eat.  You EXCEL at sleeping and at two and a half weeks I gave up the alarm during the day and let you dictate a more relaxed nursing schedule.  You've gained weight like a champ so I stopped worrying about sticking to a clock.

eats |
with all of your sleeping, I had to incorporate pumping and bottle feeding at night to keep your tummy full.  It turned into a bad habit that we have to break because I am over-producing (not necessarily a horrible problem, but one that can be painful if you don’t eat enough).  On the positive side our freezer is getting full of breast milk!  We ended up buying a chest freezer the day after Christmas.  You also really picked up latching once you started to wake up more and you nurse like a champ.  I never knew I would love nursing as much as I do!

loves |
your hands up by your face, your rock n’play, being swaddled (as long as your hands are free), being cuddled by momma, copy-cat noises from daddy

dislikes |
for a pretty relaxed kid, you really dislike being burped.

firsts |  you giggled!!  By far the cutest sound ever.  Also, Christmas.  I think you were spoiled a bit ;)

Momma | postpartum recovery was pretty easy.  I’m already below pre-pregnancy weight and still on the same happy high I felt while pregnant.  Nursing the first few weeks was rough with you not waking up to eat, but now we've got a good system going.  This month we are going to work on a schedule so when I head back to work at the end of February it won’t be so rough on us.  My only personal goal this month was to shower every day, and so far so good!

Daddy | Daddy has been home this month!!  We couldn't be luckier to have him home every day for the first month.  Having him go back to work in January is going to be hard.  I've loved having us home as a family the past few weeks.  He’s also taken over the role of Dad with ease.  He did most of the diaper changes and was bottle feeding you at night when I had to pump (because someone wouldn't wake up…..)  I always knew I married the very best man and watching him with you has just proved it.

So far when we look at you, we can't really tell who you take after more.  There are a few features that we can pinpoint as Dad or Mom, but overall it will be a joy to see what you look like as you get older.  You have your Daddy's eyes and mouth.  You have my hair, nose (sorry kid, I promise it gets better as you get older!) and my long torso and fingers.  I'm praying you have your dad's athletic ability!

Friday Five

-One-
It's my Birthday Month!!

Yes, I celebrate all month long.  It started with me baking a cake on 12/31 to kick of January the best way and will end me with baking a cake on 1/31 to remember my amazing 30th birthday month :)

-Two-
This little guy:

Seriously, I have no idea how I'm going to go back to work.

-Three-
Being on maternity leave has given me ample time to focus on a few projects around the house.  Granted it's taking me longer to get them done due to nursing, but my goal is to have all of my last minute projects wrapped up before I become a working girl again.

Currently working on #wiggydiggy's Christmas thank you letters.

Next on my to do list?  Add all of my items to eBay and our local Helena Classifieds Site.

-Four-
Now that I'm back to my pre-pregnancy size, I can focus on my closet and the Capsule Project again.  I've already pulled out all of the maternity items and put them into three piles - sell, let girlfriends borrow, and save.  Now I just need to work on the rest of my closet.

-Five-
On a more serious note now.

I've suffered from depression since puberty.  Probably even before that, but I didn't understand it until I was older.  However, pregnancy was the best natural anti-depressant around.  I didn't want to kid myself so I filled my anti-depressant medicine in November to prepare for the 'baby blues' and my depression to come back.  I haven't taken one pill yet.  I'm still happy, every single day, and I'm able to handle my "triggers" without assistance.

During my pregnancy I faced my triggers and I made the decision that they no longer control me.  J supports me 100% and he also agreed that those triggers are not worth our time or energy.  My heart hurts for him though.  Some of my triggers used to be staples in his life before we were married. I'm not in high school anymore and I refuse to let high school behavior and petty rumors ruin our happiness.

New Years Resolutions

At 12:01 AM on 1/1/2014, I told J my only resolution that year was to make him a Daddy by the end of the year.

A few months earlier, in October of 2013, we had found out we were pregnant.  Only a few short weeks later at my first ultrasound, we found out that the baby was not forming correctly and they did not have a heartbeat.  We were devastated.  The holidays were a bit harder that year with my body dealing with the miscarriage and hormones.  Our amazing Dr advised us to wait at least three months before trying again, and it took my body that long to get back into a normal cycle.

New Years Day 2014 was FULL of hope and excitement that an entire year stretched out before us to start our family.

Being completely honest here, I also wanted to have my first child before I was 30.  I turn 30 this month, on January 30th.  So each month that passed at the beginning of 2014 was nerve-wracking.  The very last month that would bring us a 2014 baby was the most stressful.  It turned into the most joyous.

That positive pregnancy test at 6:00 in the morning was the best way to wake up :)

Now, for 2015, I'm having a hard time with my resolutions.  Last year was the first year I actually kept one!  And talk about keeping the best one ever!!

In 2015 I resolve to:

Embrace my new role as 'Momma' and keep my family my priority
Focus on my health and body
Learn to let it go

Happy New Year!!
