A Lincoln Weekend

Early, early, early Thursday morning, J dropped #wiggydiggy and me off at the airport.  Our 5 AM flight was headed to Omaha, NE!!  5 wonderful days with my bestie and her son were on the agenda.

#wiggydiggy was fantastic on the flights.  On our second leg we were sitting in between two business men.  I'm talking full suits, laptops, smartphones, newspapers, the works.  I was nervous they wouldn't be receptive to sharing their row with a baby, but I was in for a surprise!  They LOVED having a baby to play with on the flight.

Spending 5 days with my bestie was just what the Dr ordered.  We shopped until we dropped, ate until we were rolling out the door and stayed up late talking.  I miss her every day.

First time meeting 'Auntie Joslyn'!

In the stroller for a day full of shopping

Doggy kisses

The Oven.  AKA best Indian food EVER
Bonus visit with Dana and her girls!  I remember when her oldest was #wiggydiggy's age....

Lincoln Farmer's Market
The skyline has changed SO MUCH.  I miss this city.  It has a piece of my heart.

Joslyn is the the ying to my yang.  I'm conservative and reserved while she's bright and vibrant.  I love everything about her, but the distance between our homes.   Another visit couldn't come soon enough.

Five on Friday - Travel Essentials

This year, I have a LOT of traveling planned for both work and play.  With my calendar rapidly filling up, I've been making my packing lists to prepare in advance.  I have a few specific items that go with me on EVERY trip no matter the reason.:

1.
Chargers
This one is pretty self explanatory - I have one car charger adapter and one outlet adapter to use with all of my electronics (pump excluded.  That one has it's own charger)

2.
Driving Flats/Airport Flats
Even though I love wearing heels everyday, I know there are times that I need flats.
In the winter I always toss my snow boots in the car.
I have a pair of B.O.C. sandals that I LOVE to wear in warmer weather.  I currently have my eye on these:

I've always worn sandals or flip flops, so ballet flats are new territory to me.

3.
Scarfs
No matter the weather, I always have a scarf on (and two or three packed).  They are perfect for a quick layer for warmth or to block some skin from direct sunlight.  Bonus - great for covering up while breastfeeding!
My favorites are from The Limited:
and Gap

4.
My Kindle and/or Sound Machine
Can't sleep without my white noise!  It's extremely important when traveling with #wiggydiggy.
If I'm by myself, the app on my Kindle is more than sufficient.  However, I take our Homedics Sound machine when #wiggydiggy comes along.

5.
Travel Tote
I used to transfer my purse into a large tote when I traveled.  Now my Brahmin Bag is also my baby bag, so it's a one stop shop.
My travel tote has to carry all of my essentials without a problem. - Diapers, wipes, toys, kleenex, hand sanitizer, phone, wallet, lip gloss, snacks, pens, blanket, bottles, etc etc etc.

If I was in the market to update my bag - I have my eye on these:
This one would be perfect for air travel!  Big enough for ALL of the essential for lil guy and me :)
This would be perfect for work trip - no need for a laptop case!

A Post about Baby Food

**Every parent is different and they will make their own decisions for their children.  This is not a judgement that 'our way is better than your way' and we would appreciate the same courtesy to us.**

J and I agreed to skip the oatmeal/rice cereal phase.  I read just as much negative as I did positive about baby cereal, so we decided that we were comfortable with a 100% breast milk diet until it was time to introduce solids.  I believe that 'Food before 1 is Just for Fun'.  We may be a bit early to the recommended age (solids at 6 months), but he keeps grabbing at my food and trying to eat everything in sight.  This new stage is so fun!

I'm not sure which method I'm a fan of yet.  Making my own puree's is easy and cheap.  I made a months worth of food in under an hour - all fresh fruit and veggies!

Carrots, Apples, Blueberries, Sweet Potatoes, Avocados

So far our little guy is not a fan of spoons.  We may end up going down the Baby Led Weaning route since he loves holding his own food and feeding himself.

Nothing's quite as good as a banana :)

Five on Friday - Summer Dreams

I'm in a Summer State of Mind.  Sunshine, cold beverages, days on the boat and the smell of sunscreen and bonfires.   With that in mind, here are my favorite summer items:

1.
Wish list item
I found a similar one at Kohls, but I just LOVE the tunic look of this one.

2.
I need a new one since my husband "stole" my old one, and I love that the glitter and monogram will keep this out of his hands!  Haha.

3.

I never feel bad when I wear out my flip flops over the summer.  For around $2 each, I always go back for a new pair (or two, or three).

4.
I received a large zip top tote in Red from LL Bean for my birthday.  It's already full of boating/pool gear!  I can't wait to put it to use.

5.
My most important summer accessory:

My lil man has my fair skin and I want to keep him as safe as I can ;)

#wiggydiggy - 5 Months

#wiggydiggy | 5 MONTHS

nicknames | baby, lil man, dude, magoo, bug

weight | 16 3/4 pounds and 26 1/4 inches long

size | You are solidly in 9 months clothes.  The legs may be long on the pants, but your long torso needs the extra length in the onsies.  You still have a few 6 month items that fit, but they are getting ready to be packed away.  You are on the threshold of moving from size 2 to size 3 diapers.

sleep |
Well, 4 months was interesting.  "Everyone" talks about this 4 month sleep regression (who is this "everyone"?) and I'm questioning if you really went through it.  You still slept, and slept lots, however it wasn't as restful of sleep.  You tossed and turned quite a bit and I would wake up to you 'talking' to yourself in the dark every once in a while.

eats | Still 100% breast milk and still on the same schedule. For a few weeks I tried to keep on the same pumping schedule on the weekends, but I love nursing you so much I gave it up.  We tried oatmeal once, but you weren't interested in a spoon.  And to be honest, I'd rather wait until you show interest in wanting food before we try again.  Only this time, I'll try some pureed vegetables instead of oatmeal.

loves |  You love talking to anyone and everyone.  You still love being tickled, taking baths and staring at ceiling fans.  Your jumperoo is your favorite toy and Jamie (from daycare) is your best friend.  You prefer being held upright and haven't fussed on car rides since we moved you into a convertible car seat.

dislikes |  You hate being tired.  That is the one time you will just have a melt down and need some rocks and snuggles from us to help you fall asleep if you were kept up too long.  You don't like being held "like a baby" anymore.  Only upright will do!

firsts |  Rolling over!!  Right before 4 months you rolled over from your tummy to your back, but then you held off another week before doing it consistently.  This month you've been practicing your rolls and putting your feet in your mouth.  When you are on tummy time, you try so HARD to move forward, it will be fun watching you learn to crawl.  You also had your first overnight away from home!  We spent a weekend in Whitefish and you were the very best baby ever.

Momma |  You and I went on our first road trip!  We went up to Great Falls one Saturday to visit friends and do some shopping.  I had a blast spending the day with you and I timed it so that your naps times were during the drive.  I couldn't have asked for a better co-pilot.

I love our hour together every day before Dad gets home.  I have so much fun listening to you tell me about your day during your bath and lotion rub down.  I wish I could spend all of my day playing with you and watching you grow and learn, but I know how beneficial your daycare is.  You have changed so much since starting there and I know that playing with your classmates is a big contributor of that.

Daddy |
I really enjoy our guy time every morning after Mom leaves for work, which consists of you chatting away, bouncing in your jumperoo, and drooling :)  Normally, you fall asleep on the way to daycare, but lately, you have been wide awake playing and chatting.  Miss Jamie says she loves you and that you are her favorite.  I feel at ease when I walk out of fundamentals knowing you are taken care of so well during the day, but I still miss you and think about you throughout the day.  You are starting to make the crawling motion while on your tummy and soon, you will be motoring all over the house.  You have begun teething which makes you fussy and uncomfortable, but you are still a super happy kid and your mom and I are so blessed to have you in our lives.  We love you very much.

Week Re-Cap

Last week started off with a bang.
And not the good kind. :(

Monday was J's birthday, but instead of celebrating we both woke up sick at 1 AM with the 24 hour stomach flu.  (I thought it was food poisoning in the beginning.  Silly me.)

To make matter worse, I had to drive 3 1/2 hours to Billings that Monday morning for a week long conference.  J had to drive to Bozeman Monday evening so he could catch a 6AM flight Tuesday morning.
Stopped in construction
Worst drive of my life.  #wiggydiggy was a super trooper though.  Napped pretty much the entire drive to Billings and only woke up and cried at the very end.

My mom drove up to be "nanny" while I was at the conference and lucky her - she contracted the stomach flu Wednesday night.  #wiggydiggy was the star of the conference on Thursday and on his very best behavior.  No crying or fussing!  Only smiles and coos.

My co-pilot on the drive home Friday ended up with the stomach flu about 5 minutes after I dropped her off at home.  Timing couldn't have been better, but the stomach flu is the worst.

J's flight ended up getting delayed to Saturday so #wiggydiggy and I took advantage of our extra 24 hours and did a lot of laundry and took a few extra naps.

Now I'm planning a birthday re-do and fingers crossed our week is illness free!
